Annual Indie Bookstore Event Celebrated on April 25, 2026

Wheatgrass Books is happy to announce our participation in the 13th Anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day!

Wheatgrass Books invites the community to celebrate Indie Bookstore Day with a vibrant, family-friendly lineup of events highlighting storytelling, wildlife education, and local art.

The day begins with a morning story time and signing, featuring debut children’s author A.C. Paolini and her new picture book Sheep & Goat Climb the World (on sale April 21st). This energetic and humorous tale follows two competitive climbers whose rivalry leads to an unexpected lesson in teamwork—perfect for young readers and families.

From 1 to 3 pm, guests are invited to explore the world of wolves with renowned naturalist Rick McIntyre, who will share stories and sign copies of his newly released memoir My Life with Wolves. He will be joined by Yellowstone educator Ashea Mills, offering a hands-on discovery table featuring engaging nature artifacts for all ages.

The celebration continues at 3 pm with a book signing by Andy Kemmis and Chris Bacon, co-authors of Grit to Grind: Shaping Montana Communities One Skatepark at a Time. At 4 pm, the day concludes with an artist reception and live auction for the Grit to Grind Skatepark Art Show, showcasing 20 artists who have transformed recycled skateboard decks into one-of-a-kind works. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the local skatepark.

This free, all-day event offers something for everyone—books, art, nature, and community connection.

Independent Bookstore Day was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the independent bookstore community. The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year there are over 1,600 stores participating across the country.

Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for-profit trade organization that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the community of the book.

Independent Bookstore Day is one of our favorite days. It both celebrates the bookseller and the book buyer. We are so excited to share this day with you!
