The Park County Community Journal proudly introduces our first student intern, Siobahn Stevenson, a Livingston native and rising senior at Park County High School slated to graduate in May of 2026. Siobahn was referred for our new internship program by staff members of the high school English Department and Janine Ensign, coordinator of the work-based learning program. In partnership with the work-based learning program, our new internship position was designed to provide incoming senior students with exceptional writing skills an opportunity to further develop their acumen through mentorship and immersion in community-level journalism.

Winner of the Stacy Sundling Short Story Award, Siobhan is a trailblazer for future students at Park County high school interested in prospective internship opportunities at the Journal.

“This is a great opportunity to get experience in a field that I am interested in and build my interviewing and writing skills. It’s also a good opportunity to learn more about where I am from,” says Siobhan, who expressed interest in writing stories spanning various topics and genres, including personal narrative and local history.

Born in 2008 to Carmen and Bob Stevenson, Siobhan was raised in Livingston and has attended the Park County school district since elementary school, excelling in the arts and humanities—specifically, topics like history and English, which, according to her, have always existed and remain somewhat unchanged in their ability to connect people and reflect the “big picture.”

She explains, “I love history because it’s one big story—it’s also interesting and comforting to know that there were people who lived 1,000 years ago, especially with how fast-paced our world is now.”

The internship requires Siobhan to not only refine her writing skills but also cultivate a unique style while learning more about processes related to professional journalism—conducting interviews, performing preliminary research, collaborating with fellow staff members, learning about production, publishing articles each week and amassing a portfolio of written works.

Siobhan’s passion for experience and curiosity about the world—the people and places that give life it’s substance—have been fostered her parents, whom she describes as tremendously supportive. She recounts, at a young age, her grandparents sharing their life stories, sparking her interest in history, and how elder cousins inspire travel and an interest in law.

Park County educators like Carol Powalisz, Sarah Mussetter and Andrew Marsh, who teach English, Social Studies and Art, respectively, have also made an impression on Siobhan through their enthusiasm, encouragement and pedagogical approach—nurturing her creativity and encouraging critical thinking rather than indoctrinating foregone conclusions.

Following graduation, Siobhan has aspirations of attending university on the east coast and is currently considering studying journalism, professional writing, pre-law, history or finance at New York University, Northeastern, Columbia and other institutions across the United States.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, camping and spending time with her family and friends. Passionate about the arts, she also paints in acrylic, enjoys television like Seinfeld and White Color, and is an avid reader of fantasy fiction and Greek mythology. Siobhan is also a member of the Park County High School Cross Country team, cheers on the Los Angeles Dodgers, and watches Formula 1 racing.

Welcome to the team, Siobhan!
