Mary Pauline (Kane) Mackaman passed away on June 1st in Livingston, Montana surrounded by family and friends. She was 72 years old.
She was born Mary Pauline Kane in Carrollton, Illinois on April 14, 1952, to Mike and Emily Kane. When she was ten years old, her family moved to Red Lodge where she grew up on the family ranch and graduated from Red Lodge High School in 1970. Following high school Mary attended Billings Business College where she graduated in 1972.
On December 19, 1982, Mary married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Doug Mackaman. Doug and Mary moved to Livingston in 1983. Mary was instrumental in the success of Doug’s thirty plus year career in the custom home business. In addition to helping the growth of the family based Beartooth Builders, she had a variety of endeavors over the years including owning a childcare business, working at Dan Bailey’s, and retiring from her career at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
In the summer, Mary enjoyed spending weekends at Hebgen Lake with Doug and their son, Josh, paddleboarding and fishing. Winters she could be found at their getaway in Cabo San Lucas loving the beach life. Mary had one of the most beautiful backyards in Livingston where she loved spending time gardening and welcoming visitors into their home. She had a soft spot for animals and always had at least one dog running around the house. She was a long-time donor to the Humane Society.
Mary Mackaman is survived by her beloved husband, Doug, and her son, Josh. She is also survived by her mother and two brothers, Gary and Mark, as well as many nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to count.
Mary touched a lot of people’s hearts throughout her lifetime. She was a great listener, a compassionate soul and a very patient woman. Her warm smile and sense of humor will be forever missed.
