The Sheepherder Square Foundation today announced that R&R Taylor Construction has been selected as the general contractor for Sheepherder Square, marking a major step forward in bringing the community gathering space to life in downtown Big Timber.
The total budget for Sheepherder Square is in excess of $2 million, with significant site and civil work completed in summer 2024. With infrastructure and foundational elements now in place, the project has moved into its most exciting phase—funding and constructing the interior elements that will truly bring Sheepherder Square to life.
Located between the Civic Center and the Big Timber Library, Sheepherder Square will become a beautifully landscaped and highly functional hub for community connection.
Key elements of the design include:
- A turf field and multipurpose lawn for recreation, events, and family gatherings.
- A music and performance venue with a covered stage and amphitheater seating.
- Flexible community gathering spaces with benches, fire pits, and walkways.
- Beautification and landscaping improvements that connects the Civic Center and Library through native plantings, lighting, and art features.
- Expanded parking and walkable pathways to enhance downtown accessibility.
- Splash fountain.
“This project represents the spirit of Big Timber—our history, our people, and our shared vision for the future,” said Jami Moody, Board Chair. “With R&R Taylor now leading construction, Sheepherder Square is moving from vision to reality.”
The Foundation has nearly completed its fundraising effort, with only $400,000 remaining to fully fund this phase for the community’s newest downtown destination.
