“Soulful Creatures,” the opening show for the 2025 summer artwalk season at The Frame Garden, located at 101 S. Main St., features artists Jim Barrett and Liz Chappie-Zoller. The artist’s reception is during the Livingston Artwalk, June 27th from 5:30 to 8 pm in downtown Livingston. The bold colors and geometric patterns set the work apart from more typical animal paintings and from each other.

Barretts work, primarily using ink and bold colored pastel, says of his work, “Most of my work is figurative. The figure or figures act as an anchor that holds everything else in place. The colors are applied to enhance the illusion of substance. They serve to celebrate and elevate the figure to a higher status, embellishing familiar shapes and creating a world of my own. Because it is a fictitious rendition of reality, I am allowed to discover spaces that only exist on the surface in a two-dimensional format that speak to me and hopefully others.”

Chappie-Zoller is a contemporary equine and wildlife artist, whose mixed media art is inspired by her western American landscape and the creatures found there. Her art explores the overlapping edges of diverse cultures and celebrates our connections, supporting her belief that what we have in common is much greater than what divides us.

The traditional symbolism of each artwork is deeply researched, combined with favorite relevant quotes and bits of poetry, then embellished with the urban graffiti she collects (benches) from trains passing through the remote Missouri River valley of her southwest Montana home.

See you on the 27th at The Frame Garden, 101 S. Main St. The “Soulful Creatures” exhibit is open through July 22nd. For questions call 406-222-5122.
