Montana Governor’s Arts Award winner John Lowell has released a new music project, a duet recording with his wife, Joanne Gardner Lowell. Titled “On My Way Home,” the project is a collection of 12 original songs by John Lowell, as well as cowrites with Rick Lang and Anne Sibley, and songs written by various others, including Dean Johnson, Alton Delmore and Montana songwriter Ben Bullington.

“We’re very happy with how this turned out,” said John Lowell from his Livingston home. “Joanne and I have been singing together for nearly 15 years, but this is the first recording where we trade lead vocal duties.” Recorded at their home in Livingston and finished in Texas, the album features several special guests, including Bill Payne, Ben Winship, Katie Shore, Ross Holmes, David Thompson, Chris Coole, Lori Beth Brooke and co-producer Merel Bregante on drums and percussion.

“Merel added a lot of musicians that were new to us to complete the tracks—it sounds quite different than some of my previous recordings,” he continued.

The first single on the new recording, “Richmond,” has been sent to radio stations both nationally and abroad, also winning grand prize in the 2022 Hazel Dickens Song Contest. Lowell has previously won accolades presented by the International Western Music Association for Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year and was awarded Western Single of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists in 2025 for “Snow on the Wineglass.” Joanne Gardner Lowell has shared stages or toured with Rodney Crowell, Tracy Nelson, Ben Bullington, Shawn Colvin, Emmylou Harris and Darrell Scott, among others. Livingston locals may remember her band Speakeasy, formerly featuring Rich “Pinky” Ruggles, Bob Bramblett and Scott Boehler.

The Lowell’s recently returned from touring Ireland, including a performance in Northern Ireland. This summer they have shows scheduled throughout Montana, as well as New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. John will be touring several European countries after coproducing the Livingston Songwriter Festival with his wife during the first weekend of October.

The album will be available on CD, thumb drive or digital download at www.johnlowell.com.
