Bestselling Montana author Katherine Reay will be celebrating her latest novel, The Undercover Bookshop, on October 14th at 6 pm at Wheatgrass Books, 120 N. Main Street in Livingston.
Set in a small Cotswold village in 1950, The Undercover Bookshop follows amateur sleuth Gemma Brown, a devoted fan of classic mysteries who begins to suspect that the village’s best baker may actually be a Soviet spy. What begins as village gossip soon leads Gemma into an international game of cat-and-mouse involving MI5, the KGB, and a mysterious benefactor.
Inspired by the remarkable true story of Ursula Kuczynski, also known as Agent Sonya, the novel blends historical fiction, Cold War espionage, romance, classic British mystery, and—of course—a bookshop.
Reay will talk about the fascinating real-life spy who inspired the novel, the enduring appeal of classic British mysteries, and the challenges and surprises of turning extraordinary history into fiction.
And because every good British mystery deserves a pub night, Wheatgrass will add a touch of British-inspired pub fare to the evening.
Reay is a nationally bestselling and award-winning author whose previous novels include The Printed Letter Bookshop, A Shadow in Moscow, and The English Masterpiece to name a few. She holds a BA and MS from Northwestern University and lives outside Bozeman, Montana, with her husband and their dogs.
Copies of The Undercover Bookshop will be available for purchase, and Reay will be available to sign books following the event. For more information visit Wheatgrass Books in downtown Livingston.
