COOKE CITY — The Cooke City–Silver Gate Historical/Museum Committee is pleased to announce the launch of a new community-wide historical signage project in Cooke City and Silver Gate. Installation of the signs, hosted by participating local businesses, is now nearing completion.
The public is invited to attend the Historical Signage Celebration on Saturday, August 1st at 10 am at the Community Council Building in Cooke City. The event will introduce the project, highlight the stories featured on the signs, and provide attendees with a map for a self-guided walking or driving tour. Guests may also participate in a historical trivia quiz based on the signage; completed quizzes can be submitted at the event for a chance to win a prize.
This project was made possible through two community fundraisers known as the 100% Ralph Museum Fundraisers, named for the late Ralph Glidden, former owner of the Cooke City General Store and author of a local history book. The fundraisers were directed by his wife, Sue Glidden, whose dedication and commitment brought the signage project to life. The generosity of local donors and supporters of the 100% Ralph Fundraisers fully funded the initiative, making it possible to showcase the unique heritage of Cooke City and Silver Gate.
