Scholarship Recognizes 90 Montana High School Seniors for Community Volunteerism

HELENA – In partnership with Reach Higher Montana and Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE), the Governor’s Office of Community Service is pleased to announce this year’s Youth Serve Montana Scholarship recipients.

“It is a privilege to offer the Youth Serve Montana Scholarship to deserving students who have positively impacted communities across Montana through volunteering,” said Kelly Cresswell, Executive Director of Reach Higher Montana. “They are much more than financial assistance, they were created to encourage young adults to play an active role in their communities, now and in the future.”

The 90 high school seniors selected will each receive a $1,500 scholarship. These students completed 100 hours or more of volunteer service in the past year and plan to attend a Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement institution this fall semester.

“The Youth Serve Montana Scholarship honor high school seniors for their meaningful volunteerism along with their decision to attend a Montana college or university,” said Josh Vanek, Director of Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement.

The Youth Serve Montana Scholarship was created to promote volunteerism and encourage young leaders to further their education while providing financial assistance to those intending to enroll at an in-state institution. Scholarships are made possible through a collaborative effort featuring Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement, a network of Montana colleges and universities that prioritize community involvement; Reach Higher Montana, a nonprofit organization focused on assisting students in achieving and financing higher education; and the Governor’s Office of Community Service, the state agency responsible for encouraging national service and community volunteerism across Montana. Funds are administered through the Governor’s Office of Community Service.

Congratulations to this year’s Youth Serve Montana Scholarship recipients for their dedication to Montana’s communities! Local winners include:

  • Shayne Taylor of Wilsall – Shields Valley High School
  • Delaney Locke of Big Timber – Sweet Grass County High School
