There’s something special happening just north of Yellowstone—and it’s drawing a crowd.
After years without a full-scale musical, Gardiner School made a triumphant return to the stage last year with Footloose, performing for over 500 attendees. This spring, they’re raising the bar even higher with a lively, toe-tapping production of Guys and Dolls. And if last year was any indication, you may want to plan your trip sooner rather than later.
Set in the colorful world of mid-century New York, Guys and Dolls brings together gamblers, showgirls, missionaries, and unlikely love stories, all wrapped in a score that has stood the test of time. With memorable numbers like “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat,” audiences can expect to leave the cafetorium singing and dancing.
But what makes this production truly shine isn’t just the music—it’s the heart behind it.
Featuring a cast of 6th–12th graders, this year’s performers have taken last year’s momentum and run with it. Where Footloose reintroduced the school to musical theatre, Guys and Dolls showcases what happens when young performers gain confidence, experience, and a whole lot of determination.

“They got their feet wet last year,” says director Amanda Gibbs, who returns to lead the production. “This year, they came back more focused, more committed, and ready to take risks on stage. It’s been incredible to watch their growth.”
Gibbs’ passion for theatre is evident in every detail of the production, from character development to the overall vision of the show. “There’s something magical about small-town theatre,” she adds. “Everyone shows up for each other, and the students rise to that energy.”
Choreographer Jess Haas agrees, noting the cast’s dedication throughout the rehearsal process. “These students are putting in long hours and truly embodying these big characters,” she says. With music direction by Kiara Carlson, the production promises strong vocals to match its dynamic staging.
Performances will take place April 23rd, 24th and 25th at 6:30 pm in the Gardiner School Cafetorium. Tickets are available at the door for just $5, making it an accessible evening of entertainment for families, locals, and visitors alike.
Whether you’re a longtime supporter of school theatre or simply looking for a reason to take a scenic drive, Guys and Dolls in Gardiner offers a reminder that talent, heart, and storytelling thrive in even the smallest of towns.
