After several years of dormancy following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Livingston Skatepark Organization is officially reactivating its efforts to support and expand the beloved local skatepark. The organization has quietly raised approximately $30,000 through automatic private donations during its hiatus. Now, with renewed momentum and community interest, these funds are poised to make a meaningful impact.

Local advocate Skateboard Alliance Montana (SAM) will step in to help guide the next phase of the project, organizing both public and private meetings with city officials and community members. These conversations will focus on determining the most effective and inclusive use of funding.

Current discussions suggest that the money will go toward Phase 2 of the Livingston Skatepark, an expansion that could enhance the park’s offerings and better serve skaters of all ages and skill levels. While final plans are still taking shape, early concepts are being explored in collaboration with original builders and stakeholders.

As part of this renewed effort, the public is invited to participate in a community survey and engagement opportunity at an event on April 25th. This gathering will serve as a chance for residents, skaters, and supporters to share ideas, voice priorities, and help shape the direction of Phase 2.

The Skateboard Alliance of Montana is excited to partner with Wheatgrass Books, Montana Skatepark Association, Project 49, and the Livingston Community to build an event that connects art, community engagement, and the future of skateboarding in Livingston. This is a meaningful opportunity to celebrate local culture, collect public input, and help build momentum around the next phase of McNair Park! - Jason Singler, President Skateboard Alliance Montana (SAM)

Wheatgrass Books, located at 120 N. Main in Livingston, will host Missoula authors Andy Kemmis and Chris Bacon for a book signing of Grit to Grind: Shaping Montana Communities One Skatepark At a Time on April 25th from 3 to 5 pm.

The event will include the Grit to Grind Skatepark Art Show featuring an artist reception and live auction of one-of-a-kind pieces created by more than 20 artists. Each work transforms recycled skateboard decks into striking original art.

In partnership with Project49, Wheatgrass will also host a Hands-On Art Station where kids and adults alike can tap into their own creativity.

All proceeds from the auction support McNair Gravity Park—so come be part of something meaningful while enjoying an afternoon of art, storytelling, and community connection.
