The Shane Lalani Center for the Arts the kicks off this fall with lots of opportunities for the community to participate in and experience the arts. Highlights include Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, Open Auditions for Shrek the Musical, Cat-Griz Schools of Music: Shred at the Shane, and The Livingston Bluegrass Festival, including a pie-eating contest.

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks presents The Merchant of Venice

Friday, September 4th at 6 pm – Henry E. Blake Pavilion

Join Montana Shakespeare in the Parks for a FREE world class performance of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. Seating is first-come, first-served, and the Concessions Caboose will be on site serving up drinks and snacks! We ask that tall chairs sit further back to allow those on blankets and in short chairs to see.

Open Auditions for Shrek the Musical

Tuesday, September 8th at 7 pm

Ages 10 & Up – No Experience Necessary

It doesn’t matter whether up until now you’ve been a theatre enthusiast, a musical audience member or the person who loves singing in the shower: now is your moment!

Featuring a fantastic original score and a cast of unforgettable fairy-tale characters, Shrek the Musical is a hilarious, big-hearted celebration of what makes each of us unique.

Performances run October 23rd through November 15th with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 3 pm.

Cat Griz Schools of Music presents Shred at the Shane

Saturday, September 12th at 3 pm

Shred at the Shane is a celebration of the guitar in Montana bringing together faculty, students and alumni from Montana State University and the University of Montana for a musical tapestry of pieces exploring the guitar’s place in music today.

This concert features: Angella Ahn, Stuart Weber, Nora Spielman, Devin Matthews, Wendell Hicks, Craig Hall, Alex Nauman, Nora Spielman, Andrey Goncalves, and Zach Paris.

Livingston Bluegrass Festival & Pie Eating Competition

Friday & Saturday, September 18th - 19th Pie Eating Contest: September 19th at 4 pm Henry E. Blake Pavilion.

The Shane Center is thrilled to welcome the 2nd Annual Livingston Bluegrass Festival back to the Henry E. Blake Pavilion for two full evenings of outstanding live music and community fun. And this year, there’s something new on the menu: the first-ever Livingston Pie Eating Contest!

“You won’t want to miss this good ol’ fashioned classic!” says Shane Center Executive Director Erika Adams. “Come cheer on fellow community members as they devour pies or, if you think you have what it takes, throw your hat in the ring and sign up! We’re limiting the competition to the first 25 contestants, so register today.”
