Artist Andrea Morgan, and her show “Range Riders” will be featured at The Frame Garden during Art Week and during the upcoming art walk, Friday, September 25th from 5:30 to 8 pm.
Morgan is a self-taught painter living in Montana. Her various occupations (restoration ecologist, landscaper, vegetable farmer) have kept her hands in the dirt and her head in the clouds for as long as she can recall. Morgan’s art is, in essence, an expression of her wonder and curiosity as she explores the wild lands and wild characters in the quiet spaces of her habitat.
Morgan’s painting process starts with dynamic layers of color and marks on wood. She works without a plan, allowing colors and concepts to evolve and shift, adding and subtracting paint, ideas, and subjects until as she puts it, “I capture the wild thing before it runs away”. Her paintings offer viewers a sense of joy and delight at first glance. A closer look reveals depth, history, a sense of humor, and surprise.
Speaking of this show Morgan says “I spend a lot of time thinking about what ‘western’ really means, and ultimately, I reckon it all comes down to connection with this western landscape we all inhabit. These people, these animals (wild and domestic) and these wild places all tend towards dramatic, if not a bit ridiculous and sometimes pretty showy. In this group of paintings, I’m paying close attention to the characters and critters around us; and highlighting some of the more ridiculous aspects of all things western. Saddle up; let’s ride.”
The exhibit will be hung September 21st and up through October 27th
