The Danforth Museum of Art (DMA) will host two back-to-back events during the upcoming week-long ArtWeek Park County celebration of the arts in Livingston and surrounding communities. They are:
Floyd DeWitt Reception: Tuesday, September 22nd, 5:30 to 8:30 pm
A reception will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd, at the Danforth Museum of Art unveiling a cast bronze sculpture by acclaimed Montana modernist sculptor Floyd DeWitt. Born in Wolf Point, Montana, and after a stint in the army stationed in Germany, DeWitt attended the Minneapolis School of Art and then won a six-year scholarship to the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Amsterdam. After spending 25 years in Europe honing his skills and building an international reputation, DeWitt returned to his native Montana and settled first in Livingston in 1984, and later Bozeman, where he continued to produce fine art until his death in 2021. This singular exhibition is in conjunction with the launch of a
website, Floyd DeWitt Fine Art (www.floyddewitt.com), a curated collection of DeWitt’s sculptures, drawings, and paintings, spanning decades of artistic evolution. The DMA is honored to collaborate with the Floyd DeWitt Art Trust in preserving DeWitt’s legacy and making his work available for viewing, research, and acquisition or loan for exhibitions, collections, and institutions.
Hi! Who Are You? A Journaling
Project Reception: Wednesday, September 23rd, 5:30 to 8:30 pm
On Wednesday, September 23rd, the Danforth Museum of Art in collaboration with Elk River Arts & Lectures will host a reception for the participants of Hi! Who Are You? A Journaling Project. This creative exchange brings literary and visual artists together on a notebook sharing project. Beginning mid-July and running through the end of August, pairs of poets and artists shared one journal between them. The resulting journals document unfolding conversations between poetry and visual art – an
experiment in collaboration, discovery, and creative interaction. The journals will be displayed openly, inviting visitors to hold them, explore their pages, and spend time with the stories, thoughts, and experiences within. The reception on September 23rd will feature readings from the journals and discussion about the shared creative process of making the journals.
Participating artists and writers include Rose DeMaris, Angela Yonke, Elizabeth Hewey, Hilary Honadel, Storrs Bishop, Mike Somerby, Dalton C Brink, Kelly Dick, Sarah Mussetter, and Tessa Moeckel.
“Hi! Who Are You? A Journaling Project” is a community-based creative partnership in association
with ArtWeek Park County, a collaborative effort of the Livingston Depot Center, the Livingston Center for Art and Culture, and the Danforth Museum of Art.
