The City of Livingston announces a temporary closure of the Bennett Street rail crossing effective from 8 am on Tuesday, October 6th, until 4 pm on Thursday, October 8th to facilitate improvements to the crossing surface in partnership with BNSF Railway.

The closure will impact residents of the surrounding neighborhoods, as well as community members seeking to access the City’s transfer station. During the closure period, Community members will be required to find alternate routes to cross the railroad tracks, including the Main/B Street underpass and the Fifth Street at-grade crossing. Additionally, affected community members are encouraged to allow for additional time in their trips during the closure.

The temporary closure will allow BNSF to perform repairs to the crossing and place concrete panels for a smoother crossing surface. The City of Livingston will support BNSF’s work with placement of asphalt to join the panels and existing roadway. The new concrete crossing panels are appropriately sized to support future pedestrian improvements as the City seeks to enhance connectivity to the nearby Gateway Wellness Center. The project is part of a larger collaboration between the City and Railway to improve the at-grade railroad crossings in Livingston with future work planned for the Fifth Street crossing.
