For over 10 years, there have been a group of Park County residents volunteering their time to control the spread of noxious weeds here in Park County. The Cooperative Weed Management Area group (CWMA) in Park County has been helping area land owners and caretakers become better stewards of the land. By helping Park County residents, both financially and through education, set up project areas and target problematic noxious weeds using a variety of Integrated Weed Management Technics.
The CWMA has held education seminars to assist with invasive plant identification and control methods (biological, mechanical, or herbicide). Educational events have been held county wide, from Cooke City and Wilsall to the Bozeman Hill and Springdale. Financial assistance for Herbicide and application have been provided through cost share grants and donations.
With the help of Park County, Park County Weed Dept., MSU Extension, the US Forest Service and many other groups and organizations, both large and small acreage projects have been completed. The CWMA would like to help any group of neighbors, ranchers, and others to control noxious weeds. If anyone would like to contact the CWMA for help or information, please contact the MSU extension office at (406) 222-4156, or Park County Weed Department at (406) 222-4158.
