The Park County Land Trust has accepted a conservation easement protecting 127 acres known as the Reedfly Mountain Property, ensuring it remains protected as open space and wildlife habitat for generations to come.
The property owners donated the conservation easement to the Park County Land Trust, permanently limiting development while allowing the property to remain in private ownership. The easement reflects the Land Trust’s mission to preserve open space and protect wildlands in Park County.
“The protection of this property is a meaningful contribution to the future of Park County,” said Becky Moores, Secretary of the PCLT Board and a member of the Conservation Committee. “Conservation easements allow landowners to make a lasting commitment to the land they care about while keeping that land in private ownership. We are grateful to the landowners for entrusting the Park County Land Trust with the responsibility of protecting the conservation values of this property.”
Conservation easements are voluntary agreements between landowners and qualified conservation organizations that protect important natural, agricultural, scenic, or cultural resources by limiting future development. While the land remains privately owned, the Land Trust monitors the property’s conservation values over time and serves as the long-term steward of the conservation easement.
“This is exactly the kind of conservation work that makes a lasting difference in our community,” said Ms. Moores. “Protecting open space today helps ensure the character, wildlife habitat, and natural viewsheds that make Park County special remain part of our community for future generations.”
The Park County Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the lands and natural resources that define Park County. Through conservation easements and other conservation efforts, the Land Trust works with willing landowners to protect open space, working lands, wildlife habitat, and the rural character of the region.
