Wheatgrass Books will welcome bestselling author Robert Moor to Livingston on Tuesday, September 29th, from 6 to 8 pm for an evening of conversation about his new book, In Trees: An Exploration. Moor will be joined by Liz Kearney and by Sarah Stands of Park County Community Foundation and Livingston Loves Trees for a wide-ranging conversation about trees, nature, history, science, and what the natural world might teach us about how to live.

Moor is the author of the New York Times bestseller On Trails, an acclaimed exploration of the paths humans and animals make across the landscape. In In Trees, he turns his famously curious mind toward the world of trees, embarking on a decade-long journey that takes him from ancient forests and giant sequoias to Papua, Tanzania, and the front lines of an old-growth forest protection campaign.

The result is part natural history, part philosophy, part adventure—and ultimately a hopeful meditation on what trees can teach us about time, resilience, interconnectedness, and our place in the living world.

“Robert Moor’s brilliant In Trees is—like its subject—powerfully, fascinatingly arborescent,” writes Robert Macfarlane, New York Times bestselling author of Is a River Alive? “Reading it, I felt my senses of time, life, and process shift in ways I hadn’t experienced before.”

Bill McKibben, New York Times bestselling author of Here Comes the Sun, calls it “a new book in that rare category of ‘classic upon publication.’”

In In Trees, Moor explores the concept of “treethinking”—a way of looking at the world through the interconnected, far-reaching life of trees. Along the way, he considers questions both ancient and immediate: How do we set down roots in an increasingly chaotic world? What does it mean to grow old wisely? And can humanity learn to think about the future with the patience and perspective of an ancient forest?

“This is the most life-affirming book I’ve read in a long time,” writes John Vaillant, National Book Award finalist for Fire Weather.
