HELENA — The Transparent Election Initiative (TEI) has announced that the organization will begin hosting virtual webinars designed to teach Montana voters how to mail in signatures for ballot measure I-194. Also called “The Montana Plan,” the measure aims to eliminate dark money influence in Montana elections by redefining what powers Montana gives to corporations.

The webinars will be held every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7 pm beginning June 2nd. The final webinar will be held on Monday, June 15th. Each meeting is free and open to the public. Interested voters may register to attend at https://luma.com/j00wu3k0. Upon registering, participants will receive a Zoom link to access the webinar.

Webinars will feature short discussions and demonstrations explaining how registered Montana voters can self-submit their signatures for I-194. Registered Montana voters can review the initiative text, print and complete the official I-194 petition form and unsworn declaration, and either mail their forms to The Montana Plan, PO Box 1953, Helena, MT 59624 or deliver them to their local County Clerks office.

“These webinars are designed to make the 'print, sign, submit' process clearer and more approachable to anyone who wants an easy way to fight back against dark money in Montana politics,” says Jeff Mangan, founder of the Transparent Election Initiative. “At TEI, we want the signing process to be as convenient as possible for voters across Montana, especially rural communities.”

If passed, the Montana Plan would redefine the powers granted by the state of Montana to corporations and other artificial entities, in effect preventing them from spending money to influence elections. All signatures to place I-194 on Montana's statewide ballot in November are due June 19th.
