BOZEMAN – The Bozeman Symphony will bring live classical music to communities across Montana this summer with a series of free, hour-long performances featuring ensembles of Symphony musicians. Many of the concerts will take place before Montana Shakespeare in the Park (MSIP) productions, creating a unique evening of chamber music and Shakespearean theater.
The Far Afield concert series begins Friday, July 10th at 5:15 pm at Fishtail Family Park in Fishtail, preceding MSIP’s production of The Merchant of Venice. The series continues Saturday, July 18th at 2 pm at the Elling House in Virginia City.
Three performances are scheduled in August. On Friday, August 14th at 4:45 pm, an ensemble will perform at the O'Shaughnessy Amphitheater at Wachholz College Center in Kalispell before MSIP’s Much Ado About Nothing. Another concert will take place Tuesday, August 18th at 4:45 pm in Palmer Park in Charlo before The Merchant of Venice. On Monday, August 24th at 4:45 pm, Principal Timpanist Jeff Vick and Principal Oboist Sandy Stimson will perform at Double Arrow Resort in Seeley Lake before Much Ado About Nothing.
The series concludes with three September performances before MSIP’s Much Ado About Nothing. Flutists Sue Makeever and Megan Makeever will perform Thursday, September 3rd at 4:15 pm on the Castle Museum Lawn in White Sulphur Springs. Additional concerts will take place Saturday, September 5th at 3:45 pm in Pony Park and on Monday, September 7th at 4:15 pm at Stodden Park in Butte, featuring a brass trio of Principal Trumpet Sarah Stoneback, Principal Trombonist Jeannie Little, and Associate Principal Horn Elizabeth Schmidt.
For more than 30 years, the Bozeman Symphony’s Far Afield program has expanded access to professional classical music throughout Montana. The outreach initiative brings chamber music performances to rural and underserved communities, fostering meaningful cultural connections and enriching lives across the Greater Yellowstone region.
