The Emigrant People's Market kicked off their new season on June 6th, boasting local artisans, eclectic goods and cottage-made food offerings.

The market, which started over 20 years ago, has grown and evolved from a loose group of residents to a well-organized weekly market under the coordination of Christy Jones. Jones undertook the duty in 2019 when participation dipped to only four or six vendors. Under the direction of Christy, the market has grown to average nearly 20 vendors with further growth anticipated in 2026.

The market now includes an application form and some commonsense rules. For example, at the urging of several vendors, a rule to limit certain categories was implemented last year to maintain the diversity and integrity of the market. The market has no vendor fees for those who register through the application process.

For the last several years, Christy has funded advertising costs out-of-pocket, amounting to approximately $600 annually. Jones states that during the 2025 season, roughly $310 in donations were collected for advertising—the highest total amount to date. Yet donations have not matched nor exceeded advertising costs. Donations to fund advertising expenses, however, are encouraged and appreciated though not required.

The market does not permit food trucks. Furthermore, additional truck and trailer displays cannot be accommodated beyond the two existing displays. Finally, due to rampant misinformation, the market no longer accepts same day walk-in vendors. Registration is therefore required for each market.

The market is held each Saturday morning from 9 am to 1 pm on the St. John's church lawn, located at 8 Story Road in Emigrant. The market is weather permitting. Special thanks to Christy’s elderly father, Mr. Bill, for crafting and donating all promotional road signs.

We look forward to seeing you!
