The City of Livingston is providing information related to the discovery of explosive ordinance in the City on July 8th on the 200 block of South 3rd Street where a homeowner reported discovering two World War II-era hand grenades while sorting a family member’s belongings.
The resident contacted the Livingston-Park County Dispatch Center and reported the discovery. Teams from the Livingston Police Department, Livingston Fire and Rescue and the Park County Sheriff’s Office responded. Upon review of the situation by local authorities, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight from Malmstrom Air Force Base was contacted and responded to safely assess and dispose of the explosives.
At no time was there a threat to the public, and the situation was resolved safely and without incident.
Community members are reminded that they should contact the Livingston-Park County Dispatch Center by calling 911 when encountering explosive ordinance including grenades, mortar shells or other similar devices. Such devices may become unstable over time and should only be handled and disposed of by trained professionals. If such devices are found, community members are encouraged to retreat to a safe location and call Dispatch. At no time should community members attempt to move or handle such devices.
