Loaves & Fishes of Livingston is putting the call out for local volunteers from civic clubs, associations, groups and local businesses to participate at the kitchen preparing and serving warm meals. Can you help?
Loaves & Fishes’ mission is to honor and serve Christ by feeding his hungry. They provide nutritious meals to people in need seven days a week. There are no income requirements to eat at the soup kitchen and meals are free. The kitchen is open seven days a week and is only closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas as Livingston’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors provides holiday meals on those days at the Civic Center.
They are in need of about ten additional groups—so, gather up a cooking team, and pick a day to commit for example, the third Wednesday of the month. However if you can only pick a day occasionally—that’s great too! Your group can work in shifts; the preparation and cooking folks come in around 2:30 pm and the clean up crew can arrive at 4:30. The clean up is usually completed by 6:30 pm. Prep times are flexible.
This is an ideal way for civic organizations to fulfill their community-service goals. If you don’t have a team, individuals will also find fulfilling work at the Kitchen.
Don’t have time to give—no problem! The pantry is always in need of essential food items. Please consider donating from your garden harvests or professionally processed wild game. They are happy to accept canned goods, pasta, rice, and especially ground meats like beef, turkey or chicken. Financial donations are also accepted.
All are welcome for a daily meal from 4 to 6 pm at 301 South Main Street. They also have a community area around the side of the building open Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 11 am to 2 pm with free items such as milk, canned goods and bread when extra donations are available.
