Locally Owned and Operated, the Downtown Dive Bar Keeps its Affordable Staples and its History as the Place Where Artists, Musicians, and Cowboys Meet and Socialize Offline
The Owl Lounge, a longtime fixture of downtown Livingston, is entering a new chapter under owner Colin Frazer, a Livingston local who purchased the bar earlier this year. In August, Frazer welcomed Travis Black as the new manager of day-to-day operations.
"The Owl is Livingston's living room, a comfortable and friendly place to relax with friends or meet someone new," said Frazer, a Livingston-based designer. "We're protecting that, and refreshing the menu with seasonal cocktails, martinis, and local drafts worth coming in for."
Black brings a background in both hospitality and architecture to the role, along with a warmth that makes every guest feel at home. "I can't wait to help build the next chapter of this beloved hometown lounge. Our new drinks are really unique and off-the-charts delicious," said Black.
The Owl is going through a light refresh that honors what people have always loved about this dive bar. The team has introduced a lineup of high-quality specialty cocktails that will rotate with the seasons, including the Absaroka Sky, a spicy tequila drink, and the Plum Shrub Soda, a non-alcoholic drink made in-house from local red plums. The staples and affordable pricing on mixed drinks and beer that regulars count on aren't going anywhere. A new wine list, available by the glass and bottle, rounds out the updated offerings.
Through it all, The Owl remains a gathering place for Livingston's artists, musicians, and cowboys, and preserving that history is at the heart of everything the new local team is doing. So is giving back to the community: since the change in ownership, the bar has donated thousands of dollars to local charities, including the Livingston Fringe Fest and the Shane Center.
Looking ahead, The Owl plans to add more comfortable lighting and seating, grow its offsite bar catering program, and host events right in the bar.
